Animal Management in MilkMate: Track Cattle, Health Records & Sale Profit
Milk delivery and billing is only half the dairy — the other half is standing in the shed. Every cow or buffalo has a purchase cost, a health history, and eventually a sale or loss. Tracking that in a separate notebook (or not at all) is how dairy owners lose sight of whether the farm itself is actually profitable. Here's exactly how MilkMate's Animal Management works.
Where to find it
Open the Farm section from your supplier menu, then the Animals tab. This is a separate space from your customer/delivery side of the app — it's specifically for managing the animals themselves.
Adding an animal
Tap Add Animal and fill in:
- Name — whatever you call it (a name, a tag number, anything up to 100 characters)
- Type — Cow, Buffalo, Goat, or Other
- Breed — optional, e.g. Gir, Murrah, Jersey
- Date of Birth — optional, if known
- Purchase Date & Purchase Cost — optional, but worth filling in if you want an accurate profit picture later
- Notes — anything else worth remembering, up to 500 characters
A new animal is automatically marked Active — no extra step needed before it shows up in your farm list.
Tracking health records
Open any animal's detail page to add a health record. Each one has:
- Record type — Vaccination, Illness, Treatment, or Checkup
- Description — what actually happened or was done
- Date — when it happened
- Cost — optional, the vet bill or medicine cost for that visit
Over time, this builds a full medical history for each animal in one place — useful for spotting a pattern (an animal falling sick repeatedly) and for knowing exactly what you've spent on each one.
Marking an animal sold or deceased
When an animal leaves the farm — sold to another dairy, or lost — update its status instead of deleting it:
- Sold — enter the sale price. Combined with the original purchase cost, you can see exactly what you made or lost on that animal over its time on the farm.
- Deceased — keeps the record for your history without it cluttering your active animal list.
Keeping the record instead of deleting it means your farm's historical numbers (past income, past expenses, past purchase costs) stay accurate even after an animal is gone.
A practical example
- You buy a buffalo for ₹65,000 in January
- Over the year: 2 vaccinations (₹800 total), 1 illness treatment (₹1,500)
- In December, you sell her for ₹58,000
- Net position on this animal: 58,000 − 65,000 − 2,300 = −₹9,300 before counting the milk she produced
Without records, that loss is invisible — the farm "feels" fine because milk sales are steady, but individual animal economics can quietly be working against you. This is exactly the kind of number a notebook can't easily surface but a proper record does.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a new animal in MilkMate?
Go to Farm → Animals → Add Animal, and enter its name, type (cow, buffalo, goat, or other), breed, date of birth, and purchase details if known. It's marked Active automatically.
Can I track vet visits and vaccinations for each animal?
Yes. Each animal has its own health record log — vaccination, illness, treatment, or checkup — with a date, description, and optional cost, building a full history over time.
What happens when I sell an animal?
Update its status to Sold and enter the sale price. The record stays in your history (not deleted), so past income/expense numbers involving that animal remain accurate.
Is animal management free in MilkMate?
Yes, animal records, health history, and farm income/expense tracking are all free as part of the MilkMate app.
